Melissa & Doug Chanukah Box Of Questions is a really nice collection of thought provoking, open ended questions that are sure to spark interesting conversations about Chanukkah. I really enjoyed some of the most creative ones like, “If you had a time machine that took you back to the time of the Macabees, what would be the first thing you do?”. (Hmmm. Invent indoor plumbing might be my personal response).

 

But  questions like that really get kids thinking, and you can almost see the wheels turning as they figure out their response. I like that the words are written in a clear print font, so even younger children can take turns reading them aloud…although they might stumble on some of the more complex ideas and words such as”commemorates”, “traditional”  or “express gratitude”. But this is meant to be an interactive game for the whole family, so the grown ups are probably present to explain things.

 

The toy comes in a sturdy tin, and contains a stack of durable  cards  that, unless your kids make a serious destructive effort,  promise to survive for many Hanukkahs to come.

 

For families across the spectrum of observance, I think it’s a great addition to any Hanukkah celebration. This one gets five stars!
